Stewardship

Protecting the Watershed, One Action at a Time

Stewardship is where care becomes action on the ground. It is the ongoing work of protecting and restoring the land, water, and wildlife of the Sacramento River Watershed, done alongside the people who live here.

We focus on two priorities at the same time: protecting places that are still healthy, and repairing those that have been damaged. Both depend on people showing up and staying involved over time.

A key part of this work is building real knowledge about the watershed through citizen science. During BioBlitz events, participants document as many species as possible in a single day, turning time in the field into usable ecological data. We also restore habitat by planting native trees in areas where shade and structure have been lost, and we remove trash from trails and creeks before it can reach the river. SEA hosts a real-time cleanup dashboard that shows every community cleanup in one place and updates instantly as new reports come in, so the work happening on the ground is visible as it happens.

Stewardship here is a shared effort across a broader network. We actively support the work of partner organizations throughout the watershed.
