About

Who We Are

Our Mission

Our mission is to protect and restore the land, water, and wildlife of the Sacramento River Watershed and to foster a community dedicated to the wellbeing of its ecosystems and residents.

About Shasta Environmental Alliance

Shasta Environmental Alliance (SEA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to protecting and strengthening the natural and human communities of the Sacramento River Watershed. We believe healthy forests, clean water, thriving wildlife, and strong communities all depend on one another. Through stewardship, education, and advocacy, and community partnerships, we work to support a more sustainable future for Shasta County and the surrounding region.

Our Structure

Our organization is built around a shared commitment to the local environment, using a stewardship model. Our leadership team functions as a Council of Stewards. Rather than separating administrative planning from operational tasks, our council members take direct responsibility for the projects, daily work, and long-term planning of the organization. Each Steward oversees a specific sector and coordinates directly with community partners, while ensuring all local initiatives remain true to our organizational vision.

This structure allows us to adapt quickly, to emerging threats or changing conditions in the environment. Our resources and energy go directly into protecting the local ecosystem and providing a reliable foundation for long-term regional conservation.

The Alliance Committee

Because interconnected issues require coordinated action, SEA includes an Alliance of partner organizations. This Alliance brings together members from local environmental groups, businesses, and community organizations, creating a structured space for communication and collaboration. Through the Alliance, members share resources, coordinate efforts, and support one another’s work. Each organization remains independent, with its own mission and leadership, while participating in shared work where goals overlap.

Our Vision

We envision a region where people are closely connected to the landscapes they live in and where care for those landscapes is a shared responsibility across communities, organizations, and generations.

By combining field based stewardship, meaningful public engagement, and strong regional collaboration, we work to support resilient ecosystems and informed communities across the upper Sacramento River region.

Want to join us?

The land, water, and wildlife of the Sacramento River Watershed are protected because people choose to step up and take responsibility for them.
At Shasta Environmental Alliance, that work happens through our Council of Stewards.

Joining the Council means having a real voice in what the organization takes on and how that work gets done.

While many on our Council bring professional and technical expertise, you do not need formal credentials or policy experience to join us. What matters is a passion for our wild spaces and a desire to use your talents to care for them.

If this sounds like you, fill out the application and tell us a little about yourself: Steward Application.
